Welding Wire: S-3 and S-6
Our welding wire is produced to serve as the core of flux coated stick electrodes for electric arc welding, and to be used without flux coating for automatic electric arc and gas welding.
In order to meet the rigid requirements of this grade, Rocky Mountain Steel uses specialized steelmaking practices, special scrap blends, and closely controlled chemistries—the steel grades range from 0.05 to 0.10 percent carbon with low sulfur and residual levels.
Rod/Bar Mill
One of the most sophisticated in the world, our facility is capable of up to 23,600 feet of rod per minute. Read More ›
Wire Rope
Because wire rope is a premium quality product with aesthetic requirements, Rocky Mountain Steel Rod/Bar Mill produces this product to meet or exceed industry specifications.
Compositional aspects such as segregation are achieved by controlled melting, casting and rod cooling practices on our Stelmor conveyor. Surface decarburization is controlled by our reheat furnace practices, and our Morgan No-Twist V-Block ensures proper rod ovality, which permits more accurate prediction of finished wire properties. Our processes produce carbon steel grades of 1045 up to 1080 to meet the tensile refined grade requirements.
PC Strand
Because the final wire drawing of this product can reach reductions of up to 97%, Rocky Mountain Steel employs selective scrap control along with caster mold stirring to ensure we meet our customers' restrictive internal soundness specifications. High-tensile refined grades are used to meet our customers' requirements.
Cold Heading Quality
Rocky Mountain Steel produces low and medium carbon rods used for the manufacture of heading, forging or cold extrusion quality wire. This is produced by closely controlled manufacturing practices to ensure proper soundness, rod surface quality, decarburization control and repeatable chemistry from heat to heat.

Tire Bead and Cord
The high strength, flexibility and adhesive qualities of steel bead and cord make it an ideal rubber reinforcing material. Rocky Mountain Steel produces 5.5 mm high-carbon rods to meet the high quality standards required by our customers. All rods are carefully analyzed for chemical components and critically inspected for surface and internal defects. Each heat of steel is processed as a single unit under controlled conditions.
Coiled Reinforcing Bar
The Coiled Reinforcing Bar product from Rocky Mountain Steel is one of the highest quality in the world. Rocky Mountain Steel coiled reinforcing bar products exhibit excellent tensile and yield strength uniformity, microstructure, and chemical control. This provides our customers with superior, consistent performance and value.
